About metric fine bolts
Metric fine bolts have a smaller thread pitch than coarse bolts of the same diameter. For example, M10×1.25 has a finer pitch than M10×1.5.
Advantages of fine threads
- Better resistance to vibration loosening
- Finer adjustment capability
- Higher tensile stress area (stronger)
- Common in automotive and aerospace
Disadvantages
- More susceptible to galling
- Slower assembly (more turns)
- More easily damaged
- Not suitable for rough conditions
